Going Gray in Metaphors

Going gray, the ticking of the biological clock grows insistent

Not for birthing babies, but embryo dreams.

So many

now birthed full term

Solid, tangible;

Others a bit ethereal

Yet resolute and accomplished.

Some seem to require an additional chromosome

Not yet gestated.

Going gray is realizing one can’t eat the whole world

though the appetite is insatiable

and the sampling of past canapés many and varied,

Each treat a different flavor

Often gulped with a blessing.

Silver is more valuable

than mousy brown;

So much wealth of wisdom to pull down,

A treasure trove of experience

yet wise enough not to share.

Going gray is going…going ….going somewhere
